Can Art Therapy help me?

Can Art Therapy help my child and or adolescent?

The answer to both questions is, Yes! Particularly this time a year where the added support can make a world of difference, when school is starting back up and there are added stresses and responsibilities for all! Art Therapy can help you, and or your child or teen on many levels. Talk Therapy can feel threatening and intrusive. Sometimes, it can be too hard for someone to express how they are feeling or what they are thinking. Art Therapy works well with children, adolescents and adults because it is universal, adaptable, and because it provides a non-threatening indirect way of working through problems while providing a secure outlet for you and those you love to express what you are feeling. This process helps individuals feel a sense of control, while keeping the therapeutic process interesting and creative. Art Therapy is a way to discover underlying thoughts and feelings, work through them and build on existing strengths to increase resiliency. Many studies are being done to measure the benefits of Art Therapy, and “a randomized controlled study of 22 children found that those who received art therapy showed greater improvement on tests that quantify anxiety levels and quality of life, even 6 months after treatment.”

Call me today and lets start a discussion on how I may be able help you and/or those you love.

What Is Individual Therapy?

Individual therapy consists of a therapeutic situation where one individual is involved in the therapeutic process with at least one therapist.  A therapist can be someone professionally trained in the use of therapy, including a Creative Arts Therapist, Psychologist, Social Worker, Counselor, Psychiatrist, Marriage and Family Counselor, etc. A therapist can be defined as someone who has received formal training in therapy and is licensed by the state they practice to do therapy. Thus, therapy differs from getting advice from friends, family, acquaintances, etc., as it is a professional service provided by a trained and licensed professional.
